HOSPITAL OF NEEDY AND PILGRIMS

The origin of this hospital is related to the finding in the XV century (1434) of the image of the Virgen de la Peña of Francia and the subsequent building of the Marian shrine at the top of the mountain, attracted pilgrims heading to Santiago on the way south.

We also know that it was a hospital intended for sick and needy, and in the past had income from land awarded by the bishop of Coria, by the Duke of Alba and even the kings themselves.
