History

Music: Atairaos.

The presence of humans in La Alberca dates back to the Neolithic period, as evidenced by cave paintings that are more than 7,000 years old.

In the Middle Ages, the village fell under the control of the lordship of Granada (modern day Granadilla in Cáceres), though it soon gained independence and even secured rights over the nearby region of Las Hurdes.

The 15th century saw a series of notable events, such as the village coming under the control of the House of Alba and scoring a victory in the Castilian War of Succession.

The village reached its peak during the Early Modern period, which was a time of prosperity and growth, but the 20th century brought a wave of emigration which notably depleted its population.
