Famous Visitors
Music: Atairaos.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, numerous artists, writers, intellectuals, and cultural figures visited La Alberca, drawn by its architecture, customs, and traditions, as well as the way of life and clothing of its people. Among the most well-known were the physician Gregorio Marañón, who came with Alfonso XIII after his visit to Las Hurdes, Federico García Lorca, and Miguel de Unamuno. Through the latter, the French Hispanist Maurice Legendre also arrived, whose doctoral thesis served as the basis for filmmaker Luis Buñuel to record Las Hurdes, Land Without Bread, a documentary that includes scenes filmed in this town and its district. Likewise, a large number of painters, including Joaquín Sorolla, found their inspiration in the streets and residents of La Alberca.
